 Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) Extension

Description: DTA was part of the BATC consortium (Bechtel, Parsons, John Warren and Don Todd Associates), which managed the design and construction of four extensions to the BART system, creating a total system of 95 miles of double track and 39 stations which included: a 7.8 mile and 2-station extension in Contra Costa County; a 14-mile and 2 station extension in Alameda County; a 1.5-mile and 1-station extension (plus 4-level parking garage) in San Mateo County culminating in a four-station extension to San Francisco International Airport. The airport is one of four projects nationally selected by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) as a demonstration project for design-build procurement. DTA established new procurement guidelines for design-build prequalification and bidding, new general conditions and specifications, and new alternative disputes resolution programs.

Construction Cost: $202 million
Description: The project involved construction of twin 840-foot steel tunnels, a 23-foot high cut and cover concrete box, a 386-foot "U-Wall" section, and a 154 foot at-grade section to bring new subway tracks from below ground to surface along the South Embarcadero roadway. The improvements were designed to increase the "turn around" capacity of the Embarcadero Terminal under market Street, allowing a service increase of 10 additional trains per hour. DTA provided quality assurance, cost control and contract administration support during the construction phase.
 Secaucus Transfer Program & Northeast Corridor Modifications Project
Owner/Client: New Jersey Transit Corporation
Construction Cost: $550 million
Description: DTA, in joint venture, provided full construction management services for the expanded Northeast Corridor (NEC) alignment. The NEC project is a public/private joint venture rail transportation project undertaken to allow construction of a major rail transfer station along the Northeast Corridor (NEC) at its intersection with NJ Transit's Main and Bergen County rail lines in Secaucus. The expanded NEC alignment included approximately 19,000 lf of new tracks.
The project successfully opened and received the "Best Transit Project of the Year" Award from the New York Construction News.
Hudson/Bergen Light Rail Transit Phase 1

Construction Cost: $500 million
Description: As part of the super-Turnkey Program Management Assistance Team, DTA provided project and scheduling control, and cost estimating services. The 20.5 mile light rail project has thirty-three stations, five intermodal transfer sites, and eight regional park-ride sites with approximately 9,000 spaces. The project is a Design, Build, Operate, Maintain contract, the first of its kind in the country for a light rail project.
